Today the SSN803 crew visited the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Station. It was extremely informative and our nuclear engineers from the sub triggered a SIMULATED nuclear trip/shutdown. The training and attention to detail is inspiring. Command Tom Digan CO of PCU Arizona received a new command pin forged from battleship USS Arizona steel. The pin had almost exactly 1177 grains of steel (not on purpose just happened to be that way) then encased in bronze. The command pin will pass to each CO of USS Arizona. There are very few words that can describe our sorrow over the loss of Ken Potts, who just turned 102 last Saturday. Ken was one of the last two survivors of the USS Arizona and the attack on Pearl Harbor. Ken was an incredible man, loving husband to Doris, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was quick with a joke and witty comeback, never failing to make those around him smile and laugh.

Our hearts are broken, but we know Ken is at peace and was welcomed by over 1500 of his fellow shipmates including Donald Stratton. Take a moment to say a prayer for the Potts family. #ussarizona #allthegallantmen #atgm #history #wwii #pearlharbor #usnavy

Nyamatusi Elephants are a sight to see! Not only have they adapted by shaking trees but one named #boswell can stand on his hind legs in order to pull down branches. He’s the first wild elephant to exhibit such a unique behavior. He taught it to another bull elephant. Now, more young males are attempting the same feat. The youngest elephant we saw and pictured here was less than 2 weeks old and had just lost the remaining pink color. Elephants are extremely protective of their young often surrounding them in a circle.
